HERE COMES THE EARTH. AND AFTER IT NOTHING FOR A LONG TIME.

Temporary Installation (2021)
WEST-Facade, Vienna (AT)

Temporary Installation WEST-Facade, Vienna

With his project “Here comes the Earth. And after it nothing for a long time.” the artist Markus Jeschaunig addresses the climatic changes and areas of tension in urban and living spaces. A large, temperature-sensitive colored motif on the WEST facade, in the 7th district across from train station Westbahnhof, changes its design, when the outside temperature in the city exceeds 25°C. This project, specially designed for this facade, makes climate change tangible in the city on several levels. Temperature-sensitive layers of paint react on site, the writing “You are Co-pilot on spaceship Earth” addresses (in reference to B. Fuller, 1960) the personal agency of visitors in a direct and personal manner, saying that they are part of the biosphere and that they have the ability to influence. In the time the Albedo-Effect is used to cool the facade. Furthermore, the project calls for an ecological footprint of buildings, by architecturally staging how a building heats up and cools down again over the course of the year and day. The artwork becomes a public temperature display.
